(오빠 is what little sisters call their older brothers in South Korea, but is also often what girls/women call any boy/man that they are close to who is older than them by 1-15ish years. It’s also commonly what girls/women call their boyfriend if their boyfriend is older than they are.)

되다 = to become

고프다 = to be hungry for something

너 = you

-의 = indicates possession, like ‘s in English (너의)

나 = I, me

너무 = too, so

갖다 = to have

대체 = “__ in the world”, “__ on earth”, “__ the heck”

-라도 = “X or something”, “If nothing else, at least X” sort of meaning (편지라도)

쓰다 = to write

-아야 되다 / -어야 되다 = to have to do X (써야 될런지)

뭐 = what

니 = you, your (alternate spelling of 네)

앞 = the front of something, or the area right in front of something

-에서 = in, at X(앞에서)

먼지 = dust


괜히 틱틱대고 씩씩대고 징징대게 돼

I get gloomy, fume, and whine for no reason.

괜히 = in vain, in the manner of doing something that you don’t need to do

틱틱하다 = to be dull, gloomy (dialect form of 칙칙하다)

-대다 = can be swapped in for 하다 in some verbs to give a feeling of the verb being down repeatedly rather than just once

씩씩대다 = to pant, to fume, to huff and puff

징징대다 = to whine, to whimper

-게 되다  = to end up doing X. Has a nuance of doing something not by choice. Like you didn’t set out with the intention of doing that. (징징대게 돼)


나는 진지한데 찌질하게 시비나 걸게 돼

I’m serious about you, but I keep idiotically picking fights.

진지하다 = to be serious, earnest

찌질하다 = to be loserish, sorta

-게 = used to turn an adjective into an adverb. IE: “easy” becomes “easily” (찌질하게)

시비 = a quarrel, an argument


뭔데 신경 쓰여 다 큰 날 애로 만들어.

Why do I care about you? You turn me from a grown-up into a child.

신경 = physical: nerves. Abstract: care, concern

쓰다 = to use

신경 쓰다 = an expression meaning to care about something/someone

다 = all

크다 = to be big

애 = a kid

-로 / -으로 = to X, into X (애로)

만들다 = to make


거꾸로 뒤집을껴, 인연을 연인으로

I’m flipping this thing around, from just a connection to a relationship.

거꾸로 = upside down, inside out

뒤집다 = to turn something upside down or inside out

인연 = a connection, a tie

연인 = a romantic relationship


대학까지도 너랑 간다면 참 잘 갈 것 같아

If I go to college with you too, I think I’ll really enjoy going.

대학 = university

-까지 = until X. In this context, “even up to and including X”. In this sentence this meaning implies that they’re already going to the same high school or middle school. (대학까지도)

-도 = X too (대학까지도)

-랑 / -이랑 = “and” when followed by another noun. “with” in other cases (너랑)

가다 = to go

-다면 = if X (간다면)

참 = quite, very

잘 = well (as in “I did really well”)

것 겉다 = to seem like X (X being the preceding word)
