어릴 적 꿈꿔왔던 히어로

The hero I dreamed of being since childhood.

어리다 = to be young (the age of a child)

적 = used to indicate having experienced something, sort of

히어로 = hero (konglish)


영웅이 되고파서 점프했던 때와는 달리

Unlike the time when I jumped, because I wanted to be a hero,

영웅 = a hero

되다 = to become

-고파다 = to be hungry for X (되고파서)

-아서 / -어서 = because X (되고파서)

점프하다 = to jump (konglish)

때 = the point in time when something happens

-와 / -과 = “and” when followed by another noun, “with” in all other cases(때와는)

다르다 = to be different


배로 커져버린 키와 흘러버린 시간

I’ve grown way taller and time has passed by.

배로 = used to indicate orders of magnitude. IE. “Your piece of cake is twice as big as mine”. Here it’s used without a number in front, so it just means “multiple times as tall”

크다 = to be big

-어지다 / -아지다 = makes a noun transitional. IE: “to be big” becomes “to be getting big” (커져버린)

-어버리다 / -아버라다 = it’s complicated. Read about it here

키 = height

흐르다 = to flow, or for time to elapse

시간 = time


어른이 되어가지만 I wanna rewind

Now you’re becoming an adult, but I wanna rewind.

너 = you

어른 = an adult

되어가다 = to go and become (되다 = to become + 가다 = to go)

-지만 = X but (되어가지만)


10살 꼬맹이가 꿈꿔왔었던 멋진 영웅만화 주제가를 불러왔었던 그 때로 돌아가고파

I want to go back to when I was a ten year old rascal singing the theme song of the cool comic book hero that I dreamed of becoming.

-살 = years old (10살)

꼬맹이 = a rascal, a kiddo

멋지다 = to be cool

만화 = a comic, a cartoon

주제가 = a theme song

부르다 = to sing

그 = that, those

돌아가다 = to go back


눈감고 소리쳐 하지만 변한 건 없지 현실은 그대로

I close my eyes and yell, but nothing’s changed. Reality remains as it is.

눈 = an eye

감다 = to close (eyes only, not doors, etc)

소리 = a sound, but often used to mean voice

소리치다 = to shout, to yell

하지만 = but

변하다 = to change

것 = a thing

없다 = to not be found, not exist

현실 = reality

그대로 = as it is


Pre-Chorus:

Even if someone tries to stop me,

누가 = someone, anyone

나 = I, me

막다 = to block, to obstruct

-아도 / -어도 = even if X, even though X (막아도)

-의 = indicates possession, like ‘s in English (나의)

길 = a road, a path

인생 = life

한 = one

방 = a shot, a round

맘 = a heart (not in the medical sense, but in the metaphorical) (shortened form of 마음)

But sometimes I go back to that suffocating time,

가끔 = sometimes

답답하다 = to feel stifling, frustrating


하얀 백지 같았던 내 자신과 대면해

and face the blank white sheet of paper that was me.

하얗다 = to be white

백지 = a blank sheet of paper

같다 = to be like

자신 = oneself

대면하다 = to face, to meet


그 만남이 또 다른 나를 깨워내

That encounter wakes up a different me.

만남 = an encounter, a meeting

깨우내다 = to wake someone up (깨우다 = to wake someone up + 내다 = to make, to put)


자 폼나게 무대를 올라

Now, full of swag, I go up on stage

자 = Sort of like “Listen…”, “Hey…”, “Well…” at the beginning of a sentence

폼나다 = to be cool, snazzy

-게 = used to turn adjectives into adverbs. IE: “cool” becomes “coolly” (폼나게)

무대 = a stage (to perform on, not like a stage of life)

오르다 = to ascend, to go up


모두 다 놀라게 jump like Jordan

to surprise everyone, jump like Jordan

놀라다 = to surprise

-게 = “So that X” Indicates that what comes after it (the 2nd clause) is done in order so that what comes before it (the first clause) can happen.(놀라게)

수년간 방구석 자리에 박혀있던 트램폴린을 꺼내

take out the trampoline that’s been crammed in the corner for years,

수년간 = for multiple years

방구석 = the corner of a room(방 = a room + 구석 = a corner)

자리 = a spot (as in, the space that something takes up, or like “Put that back in its spot when you’re done with it)

-에 = at, on X (자리에)

박히다 = to be rammed, hammered into

트램폴린 = a trampoline

꺼내다 = to take out from somewhere


드넓은 공터를 뛰놀아

and run and jump around in a wide open field.

드넓다 = to be vast, expansive

공터 = an empty lot, empty field

뛰놀다 = to frolic, to run and play


점프 한번이면 그 환희 모두 가질 듯 했던 너와

With you, who seemed to possess all the joy of each jump,

-면 / -으면 = if/when X (한번이면)

환희 = joy, delight

가지다 = to have, to possess

듯 = as if X (X being the preceding clause)


순수했던 꿈들로 날 수놓아

I weave myself into innocent dreams.

순수하다 = to be innocent, pure, guileless

수놓다 = to embroider


어른이 되고 싶던 내 어린 날은

Those days in my childhood when I wanted to be an adult,

-고 싶다 = to want to do X (되고 싶던)

날 = a day

every one of them was filled with joy.
