숨을 참고서 나의 바다로 들어간다 간다

I hold my breath and go into my sea. I go.

숨 = breath

참다 = to hold one’s breath

-고서 = to do X and then, after doing X (참고서)

나 = I, me

-의 = indicates possession, like ‘s in English (나의)

바다 = a sea

-로 / -으로 = to X, into X (바다로)

들어가다 = to go into

가다 = to go


아름답고도 슬피 우는 나를 마주한다

I face myself, crying beautifully and sorrowfully.

아름답다 = to be beautiful

-고 = X and – used with verbs and adjectives (아름답고도)

-도 = X too, even X (아름답고도)

슬피 = sadly, sorrowfully

웃다 = to cry

마주하다 = to face


저 어둠 속의 날 찾아가 말하고 싶어

I want to find myself in that darkness and say,

저 = that, those

어둠 = darkness

속 = the inside of something

찾아가다 = to go and find, to visit

말하다 = to speak, to say

-고 싶다 = to want to do X (말하고 싶어)


오늘은 널 더 알고 싶다고 yeah

“Today I want to know more about you, yeah.

오늘 = today

너 = you

더 = more

알다 = to know


아직도 나는 내게 머물러있다

I still remain here with me.

아직도 = still

내 = I, me, my

-에게 = to X, for X (내게)

머무르다 = to stay, to remain

-어 있다 / -아 있다 – creates a passive tense. IE: not for a door to be in the state of being open, not in the act of opening (머물러있다)


목소린 나오질 않고 맴돌고만 있다

My voice won’t come out, and I’m just circling.

목소리 = a voice

나오다 = to come out

-지 않다 = to not do X (나오질 않고)

맴돌다 = to circle, to hover

-고 있다 = present progressive form. IE “to be circling” instead of “to circle” (맴둘고만 있다)

-만 = just X, only X (맴돌고만)


저 까만 곳

That dark place

까맣다 = to be dark, black

곳 = a place


잠기고 싶어 가보고 싶어

I want to be immersed in it. I want to go to it.

잠기다 = to be submerged, immersed

-아보다 / -어보다 = to give X a try, to see about doing X. Read more here. (가보고)

오늘도 또 너의 주위를 맴돈다

Today again, I circle around you.

또 = again, another

주위 = one’s surroundings


너에게 갈수록 숨이 차오르고

The closer I get to you the more I lose my breath and

-ㄹ수록 / -을수록 = as one does X, the more one does X (갈수록)

차오르다 = to rise up to one’s throat, to well up


넌 더 멀어지는 것 같아

the farther away you feel.

멀어지다 = to be distant

것 같다 = to seem like X; X being the preceding clause


더 깊은 바다로 들어간 건 아닐까 yeah

You’ve gone deeper into the sea, haven’t you? yeah

깊다 = to be deep

아니다 = to not be X; X being the preceding noun or clause

-ㄹ까 / -을까 = used when wondering about something sort of to oneself (아닐까)


저 바닷속의 날 찾아가 말하고 싶어

I want to find myself in that sea and say,

오늘은 널 더 알고 싶다고 yeah

“Today I want to know more about you, yeah.

아직도 나는 내게 머물러있다

I still remain here with me.

목소린 나오질 않고 맴돌고만 있다
