팔딱팔딱 = when used on its own, it can mean “flap flap”, but when used in talking about one’s chest, it means to be pounding, palpitating

뛰다 = to run/jump, or for one’s heart to beat

가슴 = a chest


물고기는 어디 갔나

Where has my fish gone?

내 = me, my

물고기 = a fish

어디 = where

가다 = to go


동해바다 서해바다

The east sea? The west sea?

동 = east

해 = the sea

바다 = the sea / ocean

서 = west


내 물고기는 어딨을까

Where could my fish be?

참치면 어떠하리

What if it’s a tuna?

-면 / -으면 = if/when X (참치면)

어떻다 = to be how, to be in what way


광어면 어떠하리

What if it’s a flatfish?

광어 = a flatfish


삼치면 어떠하리

What if it’s a Japanese mackerel?

삼치 = a Japanese mackerel


상어면 어떠하리

상어 = a shark


내 낚싯대를 물어주오

Please bite my fishing rod.

낚싯대 = a fishing rod

물다 = to bite

-어주다 / -아주다 = to do X “for someone” or “as a favour to someone” (물어주오)


그때 마침 참치 내게

Just then, the tuna says to me,

그 = that, those

때 = a point in time

마침 = just then, just at that time

-에게 = to X (내게)


형, 형 나 좀 데려가요

“Jin, Jin, take me with you.”

형 = a word used by Korean boys and men to refer to or address their biological older brothers, but also any boys or men older then themselves by a narrowish margin, with whom they are close. By “narrowish margin”, I mean probably within 10 years, max 15.

나 = I, me

좀 = means “a little bit”, but is also used to soften a request, sort of like “please”.

데려가다 = to take someone with you and go somewhere
