술 = alcohol

잔 = a glass

비우다 = to empty, to drain

-니 / 으니 = since X, because X (비우니)

그리움 = longing for someone, missing someone

차다 = to be filled with

-구나 = adds a nuance of surprise to a fact. Used most commonly when talking to oneself. (차는구나)


그냥 다 지고 볼 걸 왜 따지고 봤을까

I should have just lost every fight. Why did I have to argue over who was right?

그냥 = just

다 = all

지다 = to lose

왜 = why

나 = I, me

따지다 = to nitpick, to quibble over something


길가에 버려진 쓰레기봉투까지도

Even the garbage bags tossed into the street

길 = a road

가 = the area around something

-에 = at X, on X (길가에)

버려지다 = to be thrown out

쓰레기 = garbage

봉투 = a bag, a sack

-까지 = to X, even to the extent of X (쓰레기봉투까지도)

-도 = X and, even X (쓰레기봉투까지도)


바람에 쓸쓸한 소리를 내

make a forlorn sound in the wind.

바람 = wind

쓸쓸하다 = to be forlorn

소리 = a sound, a noise

내다 = to make, to put


나의 백지에 널 좀 덧칠했을 뿐인데

All I did was apply you to my blank canvas a bit.

-의 = indicates possession, like ‘s in English (나의)

백지 = a blank paper

너 = you

좀 = a little, a bit

덧칠하다 = to apply (paint) on top of something

뿐 = only X (X being the previous noun or clause)


정신 차려보니 이미 한 폭의 그림이

Now that I come to, it’s already becoming a painted picture.

정신 = one’s consciousness, senses

차리다 = to set, fix

정신 차리다 = to come back to your senses, regain consciousness. Also used in conversation to mean “get it together” or “get your head on straight” sort of

-어 부니 / -아 보니 = “having done X, I realize that…” (차려보니)

이미 = already

그림 = a picture, a drawing

되다 = to become


너와 난 핸드폰

You and I are cell phones.

-와 / -과 = “and” when followed by an accompanying noun. Otherwise “with”. (너와)

핸드폰 = a cell phone


떨어지면 고장 날 걸 너도 알잖아

You know as well I do that if we fall we’ll break.

떨어지다 = to fall

-면 / -으면 = if/when X (떨어지면)

고장 나다 = to be broken

알다 = to know

-잖아 = used when saying something the listener knows (알잖아)


너의 체취만이 날 온전하게 해

The scent of you is the only thing that makes me complete.

체취 = one’s personal scent, 

-만 = just X, only X (체취만)

온전하다 = to be complete

-게 하다 = to make/let X happen (온전하게 해)


어서 날 안아

Come quickly and embrace me.

어서 = quickly

안다 = to hug, to embrace

하나 = one

보이다 = to be seen, to be visible

I’m nothing without you.

아무것도 = nothing

아니다 = to not be X (X being the preceding noun)


닫힌 맘을 열어줘 내 심장을 적셔줘

Please open my closed heart. Please thaw it out.

(The actual translation is “Please wet it”. The English imagery of a frozen heart needing to be thawed carries the same meaning as the Korean imagery of a heart drying out and needing to be re-hydrated again.)

닫히다 = to be closed

맘 = one’s heart/mind, in the metaphorical, not the anatomical sense (shortened form of 마음)

열다 = to open

심장 = a heart

적시다 = to make something wet


너를 느낄 수 있게 나를 끌어안아줘

Please take me in your arms so I can feel you.


Verse 2:

너의 품 너의 온기 너의 마음

Your embrace, your warmth, your heart

품 = one’s embrace, one’s arms; but only when talking about being in them in an embrace.

온기 = warmth


오직 너 하나만 보여

You’re the only one I see.

다시 보고 싶다고 빌어

I pray that I can see it again.

-고 싶다 = to want to do X (보고 싶다고)

빌다 = to wish, to pray


지금 이 순간 따스한 꽃 향기 바람도

Right in this moment the warm scent of flowers on the wind

and that clear sky with not a cloud in it

I’m a corpse without you. How could I breathe?

시체 = a corpse

내 = I, me, my

무슨 = what, which


아파 나 항상 cry cry cry

It hurts, I always cry cry cry.

아프다 = to hurt, to be in pain

항상 = always


나 미치고 너 없이 지치고

I go crazy, I’m exhausted without you, and

미치다 = to be crazy

지치다 = to be exhausted, worn out


니 생각 수시로

I think of you often.

니 = you, your (alternate spelling of 네)

생각 = a thought

수시로 = frequently


다 미 미워 매일이 시 싫어

I d-detest everything. Every day I h-hate it.

밉다 = to detest

매일 = every day

싫다 = to hate


날 울려 링딩동

It makes me cry. Ring-ding-dong.

(울리다 has two meanings: 1 – to make someone cry. 2 – for something like a bell, a cellphone, etc to ring. Hence the “Ring-ding-dong”)

울리다 = two meanings. See above.


기회가 있다면 널 잡아

If I get the chance, I’ll hold you.

기회 = a chance, an opportunity

있다 = to be found, to exist

-다면 = if X (있다면)


나 달려 시작해 count down

I’ll run, the count down is starting.

달리다 = to run

시작하다 = to start


장미 같은 니 품에 찔릴 각오로 다시 널 안아

You’re like a rose, so I’ll steel myself to be pricked by your embrace, and hug you again.

질리다 = to be stabbed, poked

각오 = determination, resolve

Without words, your cold expression says it all.

-어지다 / -아지다 = makes an adjective transitional. IE: “to be getting cold” instead of “to be cold” (차가워진)

대신 = instead of

대변하다 = to speak for, to indicate

이별 = a parting, a farewell

밀물 = a rising tide

-처럼 = like X (밀물처럼)
