스쳐가다 = to brush past, breeze past (스치다 = to brush past + 가다 = to go)

사람 = a person


스며드는 사람

People sinking in.

스며들다 = to permeate, to sink in


나는 어떤 사람

What kind of person am I?

나 = I, me

어떤 = what kind of, which


나는 좋은 사람

Am I a good person

좋다 = to be good


아님 나쁜 사람

or a bad person?

아님 = or (shortened version of 아니면)

나쁘다 = to be bad


평가는 가지각색

All kinds of appraisals.

평가 = an estimate, an appraisal

가지각색 = all kinds, various


그냥 나도 사람

I’m just a person too.

그냥 = just

-도 = X too, even X (나도)


다들 살아가겠지

Everyone will keep on living.

다 = all, everyone, everything

들 = makes a noun plural

살아가다 = to live on (살다 = to live + 가다 = to go)

-지 = adds a nuance of “you know”, or “Don’t you agree?” (살아가겠지)


다들 사랑하겠지

Everyone will love.

사랑하다 = to love


다들 바래가겠지

Everyone will fade away

바래다가다 = to fade away (바래다 = to fade + 가다 = to go)


잊혀가겠지

and be forgotten.

잊히다 = to be forgotten


사람들은 변하지 나도 변했듯이

People change, just like I have.

변하다 = to change

-듯 = like X, as X (변했듯이)


세상살이 영원한 건 없어

Living in a world where nothing lasts forever.

세상 = a world

영원하다 = to last forever, to remain unchanged

것 = a thing

없다 = to not exist, not be found


다 지나가는 해프닝

Everything is something that passes by.

지나가다 = to go past (지나다 = to pass by + 가다 = to go)

-면 / -으면 = if X, when X (지나가면)

If you get hurt, so what?

상처 = a wound

받다 = to receive


때론 또 아플지도

Sometimes you might be in pain.

때로 = sometimes, occasionally

또 = again, too, plus

아프다 = to be hurt, to be in pain

-지도 = “it could be X”, “I’m not sure if X” This is a trailing half-sentence where the rest of the sentence is implied. The same way we might say, “If only the sun would come out” or a similar half-sentence in English. (아플지도)


가끔은 속상해 눈물 흘릴지도

Sometimes you might be upset and tears may flow.

가끔 = sometimes

속상하다 = to be upset

눈물 = tears

흘리다 = to shed, to be flowing (tears, sweat, etc)


뭐 어때

So what?

그렇게 살면 뭐 어때

If that’s how you live, so what?

그렇게 = like that


물이 흘러가는 대로 흘러가

Flow with the current.

물 = water

흘러가다 = to flow away (흐르다 = to flow + 가다 = to go)

대로 = according to X, in the manner of X


저기 끝은 뭐가 있을지도

There might be something at the end.

저기 = there

끝 = the end of something

있다 = to be found, to exist


특별한 삶 평범한 삶 그 나름대로

A special life is an ordinary life, in its own way.

특별하다 = to be special

삶 = a life

평범하다 = to be ordinary

그 = that, those

나름대로 = in its own way


좋은 게 좋은 거지 뭐

Well, what’s good is good.

뜻대로만 되지 않지

It doesn’t just go the way you intended.

뜻 = intention, will

-만 = just X, only X (뜻대로만)

되다 = to become

-지 않다 = to not do X (되지 않지)


불편은 다들 감수하지

Everyone is subject to discomfort.

불편 = an inconvenience, a discomfort

감수하다 = to put up with, to be subjected to


극적인 상황들의 반복은 삶을 지치게도 해

Repeating dramatic situations makes life tiring, too.

극적 = dramatic

상황 = a situation

-의 = indicates possession, like ‘s in English (상황들의)

반복 = a repetition, something repeating

지치다 = to be tired

-게 하다 = to make X happen (지치게도 해)


사람들이 그런거지

That’s how people are.

그렇다 = to be like that


없으면 있고 싶기도 있으면 없고 싶기도

They want what they don’t have, and don’t want what they do have.

-고 싶다 = to want X (있고 싶기도)

-기도 = X too, X and (싶기도)


누가 사람이 지혜의 동물이라 했나

Who said humans are creatures of wisdom?

누가 = who

지혜 = wisdom

동물 = an animal

하다 = to do, to say


내가 보기에는 후회의 동물이 분명한데

The way I see it, it’s obvious we’re creatures of regret.

내 = I, me, my

보다 = to see, to look at

내가 보기에 = “the way I see it”

후회 = a regret

분명하다 = to be clear, obvious
