시리도록 푸른 하늘 아래 눈 떠

I open my eyes beneath the dazzlingly blue sky.

시리다 = to be dazzling

-도록 = to the point of X (시리도록)

푸르다 = to be blue

하늘 = a sky

아래 = beneath, below

눈 = an eye

뜨다 = to open (eyes only, not doors, windows, etc)


흠뻑 쏟아지는 햇살이 어지럽게 해

The sun beating down makes me dizzy.

흠뻑 = an adverb meaning to be “soaked” in water, physically, or anything metaphorically

쏟아지다 = for the sun to beat down

햇살 = sunlight

나 = I, me

어지럽다 = to be dizzy

-게 하다 = to make/let X happen (어지럽게 해)


한껏 숨이 차오르고 심장은 뛰어

I breathe in as deep as I can and my heart beats.

한껏 = as much as possible, to the utmost

숨 = a breath

차오르다 = to fill up, to rise up 

-고 = X and (차오르고)

심장 = a heart

뛰다 = for a heart to beat


느껴져 너무 쉽게 나 살아있다는 걸

I feel so easily that I’m alive.

느껴지다 = to be felt

너무 = so, too

쉽다 = to be easy

-게 = turns an adjective into an adverb. IE: “easy” becomes “easily” (쉽게)

살다 = to live

-아 있다 / -어 있다 = to be in the state of X. IE: Not to come to life, but to be in a state in which one is alive (살아있다는)


괜찮아 우리가 아니어도

It’s fine, even if I’m not us,

괜찮다 = to be fine, to be okay

우리 = we, us, our

아니다 = to not be X (X being the preceding noun)

-어도 / -아도 = even if/though X (아니어도)


슬픔이 날 지워도

even if sorrow erases me,

슬픔 = sadness, sorrow

지우다 = to erase, to wipe something out


먹구름은 또 끼고 나 끝없는 꿈 속이어도

even if it’s overcast with dark clouds again, and I’m in an endless dream.

먹구름 = a dark cloud

또 = once again

끼다 = to hang over, to be overcast

끝없다 = to be endless

꿈 = a dream

속 = the inside of something


한없이 구겨지고

Even if I’m being endlessly banged up,

한없이 = infinitely

구기다 = to be creased, crumpled, crushed

-어지다 / -아지다 = make a verb or adjective transitional. IE: not to be crushed, but to be gradually getting crushed (구겨지고)


날개는 찢겨지고

my wings are being torn,

날개 = a wing

찢기다 = to be torn


언젠가 내가 내가 아니게 된달지어도

and someday I become someone who’s not me,

언젠가 = sometime, some day

내 = I, me, my

되다 = to become


괜찮아 오직 나만이 나의 구원이잖아

it’s okay.  I’m the only salvation for me.

오직 = solely, exclusively

-만 = just X, only X (나만이)

-의 = indicates possession, like ‘s in English (나의)

구원 = salvation

-잖아 = used when saying something the listener already knows (구원이잖아)


못된 걸음걸이로 절대 죽지 않고 살아

Walking fiercely on, I’m not dying at all. I’m alive.

못되다 = to be mean, cruel

걸음걸이 = one’s gait

-로 / -으로 = via X, using X (걸음걸이로)

절대 = never, absolutely not

죽다 = to die

-지 않다 = to not do X (죽지 않고)


How you doin? I’m fine

내 하늘은 맑아

My sky is clear.

맑다 = for the sky to be clear


모든 아픔들이여 say goodbye

All you sorrows, say goodbye.

모든 = every

-들 = makes a noun plural (아픔들이여)


잘 가

Goodbye.

잘 = well (as in, “He sings well.”)

가다 = to go

너 = you

부르다 = to call (not on the phone, but aloud)

법 = a way of doing something, how to do something

외롭다 = to be lonely


깜깜한 밤 어둠은

The pitch darkness of night

깜깜하다 = to be pitch-black

밤 = a night

어둠 = darkness

shakes up my sleeping dream, but 

잠들다 = to fall asleep

흔들다 = to shake

-어 놓다 / -아 놓다 = to do X and leave it in that state (흔들어 놓지만)


두렵지 않은 걸 괜찮아 괜찮아

두렵다 = to be scared

되뇌다 = to repeat something (verbally)
