반짝반짝하다 = to glitter, sparkle

보다 = to see, to look at

또 다르다 = to be another, to be different

세상 = a world

Soaked with sweat when I first met you,

땀 = sweat

잔뜩 = to be full, fully, completely

배다 = to permeate, soak into

만나다 = to meet

너 = you


뭔가 이상했었던 아이

You were kind of a strange kid.

이상하다 = to be strange

아이 = a child


난 달에서, 넌 별에서

I’m from the moon. You’re from a star.

나 = me, I

달 = a moon

-에서 = from X (달에서, 별에서)

별 = a star


우리 대화는 숙제 같았지

Our conversations were like homework.

우리 = we, us, our

대화 = a conversation

숙제 = homework

같다 = to be like

-지 = adds a feeling of, “Isn’t it?” or “Don’t you agree?” (같았지)


하루는 베프. 하루는 웬수.

One day best friends, the next day sworn enemies.

I just wanna understand

하루 = a day

베프 = besties, best friends

웬수 = archenemy. Actually a dialect form of 원수

우린 서로의 mystery

We are a mystery to each other.

서로 = each other

-의 = indicates possession like ‘s in English (서로의)


그래서 더 특별한 걸까

Is that what makes it more special?

그래서 = therefore, so, because of that

더 = more

특별하다 = special

언젠가 = sometime

이 = this, these

함성 = a shout, a cry, a cheer

멎다 = to die

때 = the point in time when something happens


내 옆에 함께 있어줘

옆 = beside

-에 = at, on X (옆에)

함께 = together

있다 = to be at a location

-아주다 or -어주다 = adds a nuance of “for” or “as favour” to someone (있어줘)

영원히 = forever

계속 = continually

곳 = a place


네 작은 새끼손가락처럼

Like your little pinky finger.

네 = you, your

작다 = to be small

새끼손가락 = pinky finger (새끼 = baby, + 손가락 = finger)

-처럼 = like X (새끼손가락처럼)


일곱 번의 여름과 추운 겨울보다 오래

Longer than 7 summers and 7 cold winters.

이곱 = seven

번 = a time, times (as in “7 times”)

여름 = summer

-과 or -와 = “and” when followed by another noun, “with” in all other cases (여름과)

춥다 = to be cold

겨울 = winter

-보다 = more than X, rather than X(겨울보다)

오래 = for a long time


수많은 약속과 추억들보다 오래

Longer than the many promises and memories.

수많다 = numerous, abundant

약속 = a promise

추억 = a memory

-들 = makes a noun plural (추억들보다)


Verse 2:

우리 교복 차림이 기억나

I remember our school uniforms.

교복 = a school uniform

차림 = an outfit

기억나다 = to remember (기억 = memory + 나다 = to come up)


우리 추억 한 편 한 편 영화

Each of our memories is like a movie.

영화 = a movie


만두 사건은 코미디 영화 yeah yeah

The dumpling incident is a comedy, yeah yeah

만두 = a dumpling

사건 = an incident, an event

코미디 = a comedy


하교 버스를 채운 속 얘기들…

The conversations* that filled the bus on the way home from school.

*(the phrase used here is “inside story”, which means not necessarily an inside joke, but like one of those kinds of conversations where anyone else listening would be totally lost)

하교 = leaving school

버스 = a bus

채우다 = to fill

속 = the inside of something

얘기 = story or conversation, (colloquial form of 이야기)


이젠 함께 drive를 나가

Now we go for drives together.

이제 = now

나가다 = to go out


한결같애, 그때의 우리들

We haven’t changed from who we were then.

한결같다 = to be steadfast, constant


“Hey 지민, 오늘”

“Hey, Jimin, today…”

(the sound he makes here, accompanied by a certain hand gesture, means, “let’s go for a drink”.)

오늘 = today


내 방의 드림캐쳐

The dreamcatcher in my room,

방 = a room


7년간의 history

7 years worth of history.
