설레다 = to flutter, to palpitate (one’s heart)

인사 = a greeting (whether hello or goodbye)

못하다 = to not be able to do X

The whole world is my home.

온 = whole, entire

세상 = a world

내 = I, my

집 = a house, a home

문을 열면 뭐든 다 될 것처럼

As if when I opened the door everything would work out,

저 = that, those

문 = door

열다 = to open 

-면 / -으면 = if/when X (열면)

뭐든 = whatever, anything

다 = all

되다 = to become, to work out

-처럼 = like X (것처럼)


마치 무슨 본때를 보여줄 것처럼

as if I were really going to show something great,

마치 = often placed at the beginning of sentences that contain imagery

무슨 = what, which, some kind of

본때 = a pattern, an example

보이다 = to show, to be visible

-어주다 / -아주다 = adds a nuance of “for” or “as a favour to” the person to/for whom the action is being done (보여줄)


집을 나섰지

I left home.

나서다 = to set out, to leave home

-지 = adds a nuance of “You know?” or “isn’t it?” (나섰지)


(이 모든 상상이 다 신기루로 끝나지 않길)

(I hope that all of these imaginings don’t end up being mirages)

이 = this, these

모든 = every

상상 = an imagination

신기루 = a mirage

-로 / -으로 = to, into X (신기루로)

끝나다 = to end

-지 않다 = to not do X (끝나지 않길)

-길 = “If only X would happen”, “I wish X would happen” (않길)

기억하다 = to remember

하다 = to do

-ㄹ 수 있다 / -을 수 있다 = to be able to do X (할 수 있을)

것 같다 = to seem like X (X being the preceding clause)

때 = the point in time when something happens

문 = a door

-기 전에 = before X (열기도 전에)

-도 = X too, even X (여기도)


Pre-Chorus:

The more I try to fill up with something, the emptier it gets.

뭔가 = something

채우다 = to fill

-ㄹ수록 / -을수록 = the more one does X, as one does X (채울수록)

더 = more

비어가다 = to become emptied out (비다 = to be empty, vacant + 가다 = to go)

The more I’m together with others, the more I feel alone.

함께 = together

혼자 = alone


반쯤 감긴 눈, 잠 못 드는 밤

Eyes half closed, sleepless nights

반쯤 = half, halfway

감기다 = to be closed

눈 = eyes

잠 = sleep

들다 = to enter (Koreans say “to enter sleep” rather than “to fall asleep”)

밤 = a night


니가 있는 곳

The place where you are

네 = you, your

-가 있다 / -이 있다 = to have X (네가 있는)

곳 = a place


Chorus:

Maybe that place is my home.

아마 = maybe, probably

그 = that, those

바로 그곳이 Mi Casa

That place right there is my home.

바로 = “right”, “just”, (as in “right here, right now” or “this is just perfect”)

Turn your switch on in advance.

Yeah

미리 = beforehand, ahead of time

켜두다 = to turn on and leave on (켜다 = to turn on + 두다 = to put, to leave (something))

너 = you

-의 = indicates possession, like ‘s in English (너의)


말을 안 해도 편안할 거야

Even if nothing is said, it’ll be comfortable.

말 = words, what someone says

안 = to not do X 

-아도 / -어도 = even if X (해도)

편안하다 = to be comfortable, relaxed, easy


너만 있다면 다 내 집이 될 거야

If only you’re there, anywhere will be my home.

-다면 = if X (있다면)

At the entrance, with the lights off, my feet feel strange.

불 = a light

끄다 = to turn off

현관 = an entrance

-에 = at, on X (현관에)

발 = foot/feet

이상하다 = to be strange


눈 감고 이불 안에 있어도 이상해

Even with my eyes closed, inside my blanket, I feel strange.

감다 = to close (eyes only, not doors, windows, etc)

-고 = X and (not for use with nouns) (감고)

이불 = a blanket

안 = the inside of something


둥 붕 뜬 기분

This booming, buzzing, floating feeling

뜨다 = to float

기분 = a feeling


빙 도는 두 눈

Eyes going around in circles.

빙 = in circles

돌다 = to turn, to spin, to go around

두 = two


이 멋진 공간에 나 완전 초라해

I’m completely wretched in this amazing space.

멋지다 = to be cool, amazing

나 = I, me

완전 = completely

초라하다 = to be shappy, poor, wretched


완전 초라해.

세상은 우리가 세상을 다 가진 줄 아는군.

The world thinks that we have the world.

우리 = we, us, our

가지다 = to have

줄 알다 = to think X to be the case

-군 = adds a nuance of surprise, or that you just realized the fact that you’re saying (아는군) 


꿈에 그리던 Big house, big cars, big rings

The big house, big cars, big rings that I longed for in my dreams.

꿈 = a dream

그리다 = to long for


내가 원한 건 모든 걸 가져도

Even though I have everything I wanted

원하다 = to want


뭔가 허전한 지금 모든 걸 이룬 자가 느낀 낯선 기분

there’s an unfamiliar feeling of someone who’s now achieved everything but feels like something is missing.

허전하다 = to feel empty, to feel like something is missing

지금 = now

이루다 = to achieve, to accomplish

자 = a person

느끼다 = to feel

낯설다 = to be unfamiliar


But 지금 떠나도 돌아올 곳이 있기에 나서는 문

But even if I leave now I have somewhere to return to, so I step through the door.

떠나다 = to leave

돌아오다 = to come back

-기에 = “because X”. Used when providing a reason why one is doing something. (있기에)


Pre-Chorus:

갈림길에서 자꾸 생각나

At a crossroad, I keep thinking of

갈림길 = a crossroads, a turning point

-에서 = (살림길에서)

자꾸 = keep (as in, “I keep doing this”, not “can I keep this”)

생각나다 = to think of, to remember

you who recognized me when I was nothing to look at.

볼품없다 = to be unattractive, unappealing

알아주다 = to recognize, to appreciate, to acknowledge


네 생각에 웃을 수 있었어

I could smile at the thought of you.

웃다 = to smile, to laugh

The place where you are

번 = a time (like “3 times”, not like “remember that time when…”)

울리다 = to ring

미처 못한 인사를 전할 수 있게

so that I can deliver the greeting I couldn’t up until now?

미처 = up to that, as far as, to that extent

전하다 = to deliver (a message)

-게 = so that X, to make X happen (있게)


그땐 말할게

I’ll say it then.

말하다 = to speak, to say

-ㄹ게 / -을게 = “I’ll do X” with a nuance of “If that’s ok with you”, “unless you object” (말할게)

오램만 = a while, used to say “It’s been awhile”, or “this is the first time in a while that X”

-구나 = adds a nuance of surprise. Indicates that the user just realized the thing they said.

-잖아 = used to say something that the listener already knows (편안하잖아)
