Verse 1:

반짝이는 별빛들

The glittering starlight,

반짝이다 = to glitter, to sparkle

별 = a star

빛 = light (not as in a thing that light comes out of, but as in the light that comes out of a thing)

-들 = makes a noun plural (별빛들)


깜빡이는 불 켜진 건물

the buildings with their flickering lights on,

깜빡이다 = to flicker

불 = a light (not as in the light that comes out of a thing, but as in a thing that light comes out of)

켜다 = to turn on a light

건물 = a building


우린 빛나고 있네

We are shining.

우리 = we, us, our

빛나다 = to shine

-고 있다 = present progressive ie: “We are shining”, rather than “we shine” (빛나고 있네)

-네 = adds a nuance of surprise or amazement (있네)


각자의 방 각자의 별에서

In each of our rooms, in each of our stars.

각자 = each; individually

-의 = indicates possession. Equivalent to ‘s in english. (각자의)

방 = a room

-에서 = in (별에서)


어떤 빛은 야망

Some lights are ambition.

어떤 = some; certain ones

야망 = ambition


어떤 빛은 방황

Some lights are wanderings.

방황 = wandering, as in having gone astray or being aimless


사람들의 불빛들 모두 소중한 하나

The light of each person is precious.

사람 = a person

모두 = every; all

소중하다 = to be precious

하나 = one


어두운 밤 (외로워 마)

In the dark night (Don’t be lonely)

어둡다 = to be dark

밤 = night

외롭다 = to be lonely


별처럼 다 (우린 빛나)

Like stars, (we all shine)

다 = all

-처럼 = like (별처럼 = like a star/like stars)


사라지지 마 큰 존재니까

Don’t disappear, because your existence is so great.

Let us shine.

사라지다 = to disappear

-지 마 = “Don’t do X” (사라지지 마)

크다 = to be big

존재 = existence

-니까 = because X (존재니까)


Pre-chorus:

어쩜 이 밤의 표정이 이토록 또 아름다운 건

How is this night once again so beautiful?

어쩜 = how

이 = this/these

표정 = an expression; a look

이토록 = this, so (as in, “This beautiful” or “so beautiful”) 

또 = once again

아름답다 = to be beautiful


저 별들도 불빛도 아닌 우리 때문일 거야

It’s not because of those stars or those lights. It’s because of us.

저 = that/those

-도 = too or neither (별들도)

아니다 = to not be X (X being the preceding noun)

때문(에) = because of X (X being the preceding noun)


Chorus:

너를 보며 꿈을 꿔

When I look at you I’m dreaming.

나 = I, me

너 = you

보다 = to look at, to see

-며 = while X (보며)

꿈 = a dream

꾸다 = to dream

칠흑 같던 밤들 속

in the nights that were pitch-black

칠흑 = pitch darkness

같다 = to be like

속 = the inside of something


서로가 본 서로의 빛 같은 말을 하고 있었던 거야

we saw each other’s lights and they were saying the same thing: 

서로 = each other

말 = words, something you say


우린 가장 깊은 밤에 더 빛나는 별빛

We are stars that shine brighter in the darkest night.

가장 깊은 밤에 더 빛나는 별빛

Stars that shine brighter in the darkest night.

가장 = “most”, when forming superlatives IE. “The most brilliant”, not “most of us are brilliant” (가장 깊다)

깊다 = to be deep

더 = more


밤이 깊을수록 더 빛나는 별빛

Stars that shine brighter the darker the night gets.

-ㄹ수록 / -을수록 = the more x happens, to the degree that X happens (깊을수록)


Verse 2:

한 사람에 하나의 역사

One person’s history inside of one person.

한 = abbreviation of 하나, which means 1

-에 = in/at/on – basically indicates where something is happening

역사 = history


한 사람에 하나의 별

One person’s star inside of one person.

70억 개의 빛으로 빛나는

Shining with the light of 7 billion people are

억 = 100 million (counting big numbers in Korean is a whole thing)

-로 or 으로 = using, by way of, via X (빛으로)


70억 가지의 world 70억 가지의 삶

7 billion different worlds, 7 billion different lives.

삶 = a life


도시의 야경은 어쩌면 또 다른 도시의 밤

The city’s night view may be the night of another city. 

도시 = a city

야경 = a night view, nightscape

어쩌면 = maybe, perhaps

다르다 = to be different


각자만의 꿈 let us shine

Each with just our own dream, let us shine.

넌 누구보다 밝게 빛나

You shine brighter than anyone.

누구 = who or someone/anyone, depending on context

-보다 = more than X, rather than X (누구보다)

밝다 = to be bright

-게 = turns a verb or adjective into an adverb IE: “to be bright” becomes “brightly” (밝게)


Pre-chorus:

어쩜 이 밤의 표정이 이토록 또 아름다운 건

How is this night once again so beautiful?

저 어둠도 달빛도 아닌 우리 때문일 거야

It’s not because of the darkness or the moonlight. It’s because of us.

-이란 = called X (사람이란)

가득하다 = to be filled with

곳 = place

숨 = breathe; breathing

쉬다 = to breathe (when used with 숨)
